Illustrating an American Psycho

Updated: Jun 15, 2018

Prisma Premier color pencils, Markers on US dollar bill.

I've been working on a couple of different projects and to alleviate some of the rote things that occur when I work on a piece for too long I like to take a detour and work on nontraditional craft type novelty mixed media assemblages which are a great way to break up the monotonous.

I've created various concoctions throughout the years like my spray can series comprised of original artwork wrapped to graffiti cans which I have a lot of fun making.

I came across a couple of artists on social media who are putting down some awesome illustrations on currency so I was inspired and decided to give it a try.

At first, I was a little perplexed as to how I was going to create this piece using my weapons of choice, Prisma Premier pencil, and markers because I've been mainly working with these mediums for quite some time and I didn't want to execute it in paint, but in the end the formula I came up with actually worked and I was surprised at the final outcome even though there are some limitations working with these particular mediums on currency.

I'm not going to get into how I made this because I really enjoyed making it so I will go into detail on my next blog.

American Psycho was for me the perfect way to kick of this series because it is relevant and provocative, I mean what better way to show disdain for something that has caused so much pain in the world than to couple it with an iconic flick like American Psycho.

American Psycho is a comedy horror film starring awesome actors like Christian Bale and Willem Dafoe, check out the plot here

Stay tuned for more currency creations, the ideas are endless and I have plenty of them!
