I often reminisce about my brothers 18th birthday and the surprise eye-popping 1957 Chevy Bel Air he got as a gift. I was 8 years old at the time and I'll never forget that day when my mom pulled off the sheets she was covering the car with, beneath the glistening sun was a red and white hard top classic with soft white leather interior and the back seat was covered with a velvet Elvis Presley throw. It was his first car too!
This was back in 1983 and to this day the 57 Chevy Bel Air is one of the most popular and sought-after classics, it was definitely a head turner and boy did my brother smile ear to ear when he put his hands on that cherry red steering wheel for the first time.
I've never been too much of a gearhead myself, but as far back as I can remember I have always had an appreciation for a classic ride, there is something euphoric and nostalgic exuded from classic cars like the 66 Nova, 65 Impala, and the 1970 Dodge Challenger.
These cars were built to last and their designs have yet to be outmatched by anything modern in my opinion. When you take a classic and put it side by side with today's daily driver there is no comparison and definitely no competition when it comes to design. Classic cars are works of art.
Angelenos have had a long passionate affair with their cars and there is a rich history of the American car culture and I had the opportunity to experience an exciting gestalt where the classic car community came together and celebrated that opulent history with two floors of 1000+ cars from Lowriders, Exotics, Hot Rods, Antiques and everything in between.
